23 musicians from nine of our churches gathered at the Lutheran Center for a weekend of music and music learning. The workshop was led by Todd with guest lecturers, pastors Karen and Esther and Beatriz. In addition this time we were helped by Professor Jhonny Corado a music teacher from the local town. The students learned singing techniques, guitar, music theory and a bunch of songs and hymns. The following are some photos.
Mount Olivet Lutheran from Minneapolis, Minnesota visited ILAG for 10 days in February. They helped with a women’s retreat at the Lutheran Center, visited ILAG congregations in Nuevo Porvenir and Playita Cero Alto, made a brief visit to El Mirador school and did some site seeing. It was a trip filled with the Holy Spirt and blessed by our Lord. The following are some photos…
Twenty seven leaders from 14 church communities met at the Lutheran Center for the bi-annual “consejo nacional”. We reported on our progress in ministry, made plans for the future and studied the bible. The theme for the meeting and for the coming year is “Renewing our faith in community”. The following photos show the leaders having a skype conference with Brandon Louie a graduate student at UC Davis, who is coming to Guatemala this spring and summer to help us start a new vegetable garden project.
Brian and Dawn McWilliams from Los Angeles accompanied Pastor Karen and Todd to visit 4 communities in the Coban area. They were very busy: in Cimiento, Pastor Karen and the team celebrated mass and installed Pedro and Victoria as ministers of communion; in Nuevo Porvenir they celebrated mass and recognized the graduates of the school; in Playita they celebrated mass and had children’s activities; and in Israel they had a church council meeting where they talked of plans for the coming year. Brian and Dawn brought heirloom seeds for vegetable gardens and eye glasses for folks that need them.

The new hymnal “Himnario Luterano 2014” has been printed. This is the first hymnal for ILAG. It is a first edition with many things to improve, but an exciting start to collecting and presenting all the rich musical traditions of the Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala. Todd with the help of Irving and Gabriel collected the hymns and used Lulu.com to print the book. The printing was funded by St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, Nevada — THANK YOU! Pastor Karen took the photo during a Skype call as Todd showed her the new books from Minnesota.
The youth retreat this past weekend was a big success! Activities and classes filled the two days. The theme was “Dreams”. Members of the Southeastern Synod came to help with the event. Thank you Rachel, John Paul, Ethan, Rebecca and Jeremy!
