Weaving the Future: MILAGRO Young Women Participate in a Weaving Class in Antigua Guatemala

In July, several young women from MILAGRO had the valuable opportunity to take part in a weaving class in Antigua Guatemala, thanks to the support of Julia, Pastor Greg, and Linda from St. David’s Lutheran Church. This experience was not only a space for learning but also an opportunity to connect with one of the most representative traditions of our country.

Weaving, more than just an artisanal technique, is a cultural heritage that carries history, identity, and creativity. For these young women, the activity represented the chance to develop new skills, practice patience, and strengthen their sense of community, as they are now sharing what they learned with their peers.

These initiatives highlight the importance of keeping ancestral traditions alive while preparing youth for the future. Through weaving, not only are techniques that form part of Guatemala’s cultural heritage preserved, but values of discipline, collaboration, and resilience are also nurtured—qualities that will accompany these young women throughout their personal and professional lives.
