St. David South Carolina visit CLAG and MILAGRO
The delegation from St. David, South Carolina, had the opportunity to share a very special time with the young women in the MILAGRO program and with the educational community at Colegio Luterano. During their visit to the school, they toured the various classrooms, where they were able to meet the teachers in person, talk with the children, and learn a little more about the daily life of our educational community. This gathering allowed the visitors to gain insight into the experiences of the students and teachers, sharing moments of joy and strengthening the bonds of friendship between both communities.
As part of the MILAGRO program, the young women prepared a special presentation to share aspects of their culture and heritage with the delegation. One of the activities was a demonstration of the process of making traditional Guatemalan textiles. The young women showed how, from the very beginning, the threads are carefully arranged to form patterns and designs, explaining how the fabric is gradually woven. This experience allowed the visitors to appreciate not only the beauty of the textiles, but also the knowledge, patience, dedication, and cultural heritage that each piece represents—and that the young women seek to preserve and share with pride.
As a token of affection, the members of St. David presented each of the young women with a comforter, a gift that was received with great gratitude and emotion. The students also had the opportunity to share with the delegation some of the skills they have acquired in their baking class. Together, they baked three different types of bread, allowing the visitors to participate in the process and learn about the skills the young women have developed throughout their training. More than just a class, this gathering became an experience of fellowship, mutual learning, and joy, culminating in everyone sharing the bread they had prepared together.
To conclude this experience, the delegation held an art activity with the young women, during which each one was able to creatively paint a cross on a canvas to take home and display wherever she wished. The cross served as a symbol of the faith they share and of the spiritual unity that binds both communities, even though they are in different countries. This gesture served as a memento of the visit and the relationships built during the gathering, reminding them that behind every activity, gift, and shared moment lies a bond of sisterhood that continues to grow through faith, friendship, and mutual support.
La delegación de St. David, South Carolina, tuvo la oportunidad de compartir un tiempo muy especial con las jóvenes del programa MILAGRO y con la comunidad educativa del Colegio Luterano. Durante su visita al colegio, realizaron un recorrido por las diferentes aulas, donde pudieron conocer de cerca a las maestras, conversar con los niños y conocer un poco más de la vida cotidiana de nuestra comunidad educativa. Este encuentro permitió que los visitantes se acercaran a las experiencias de los estudiantes y docentes, compartiendo momentos de alegría y fortaleciendo los lazos de amistad entre ambas comunidades.
En el programa MILAGRO, las jóvenes prepararon una presentación especial para compartir con la delegación algunos aspectos de su cultura y de sus raíces. Uno de los momentos más significativos fue la demostración del proceso de elaboración de los textiles típicos de Guatemala. Las jóvenes mostraron cómo, desde el inicio, se acomodan cuidadosamente los hilos para formar los patrones y diseños, explicando cómo poco a poco se va construyendo el tejido. Esta experiencia permitió a los visitantes apreciar no solo la belleza de los textiles, sino también el conocimiento, la paciencia, la dedicación y la herencia cultural que cada pieza representa y que las jóvenes buscan preservar y compartir con orgullo.
Como muestra de cariño, los integrantes de St. David obsequiaron un edredón a cada una de las jóvenes, un regalo que fue recibido con mucha gratitud y emoción. Las estudiantes también tuvieron la oportunidad de compartir con la delegación algunos de los conocimientos que han adquirido en su clase de panadería. Juntas elaboraron tres tipos diferentes de pan, permitiendo que los visitantes participaran en el proceso y aprendieran de las habilidades que las jóvenes han desarrollado a lo largo de su formación. Más que una clase, este espacio se convirtió en una experiencia de convivencia, aprendizaje mutuo y alegría, que culminó compartiendo juntas el pan que habían preparado.
Para cerrar esta experiencia, la delegación realizó una actividad artística con las jóvenes, en la que cada una pudo pintar una cruz de manera creativa sobre un cuadro para llevarlo consigo y colocarlo en el lugar que deseara. La cruz representó un símbolo de la fe que comparten y de la unidad espiritual que une a ambas comunidades, aun estando en diferentes países. Este detalle quedó como un recuerdo de la visita y de las relaciones construidas durante el encuentro, recordándoles que detrás de cada actividad, regalo y momento compartido existe un vínculo de hermandad que continúa creciendo a través de la fe, la amistad y el acompañamiento mutuo.
