Peace Lutheran Knoxville in Las Rosas – Covenant Signing
During this second day of our visit to the community of Las Rosas, we once again had the opportunity to spend time in a more intimate way with our brothers and sisters in the church. Among the activities we participated in, we made necklaces with crosses carved from olive wood—a gift rich in meaning for our faith. The olive tree reminds us of our theological roots, and in this context, the cross became a symbol of our shared faith and the unity that exists among the churches, even when they are separated by thousands of kilometers. Each necklace served as a tangible reminder of the fellowship and spiritual bond forged during the visit.
Before the service, the pastors set aside special time to talk with the young people who would be receiving their First Communion. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss with them the significance of this important step in their life of faith, to listen to their concerns, and to address any questions they might have before publicly affirming their faith before the church and, above all, before God. During the service, the First Communions were celebrated in an atmosphere of joy and gratitude. As part of this special moment, the brothers and sisters from Knoxville presented each young person with a Bible as a symbol of this new step in their Christian journey and as a keepsake they can cherish throughout their lives, always returning to the Word of God and the experience of this day.
One of the most significant moments of the visit was the signing of the partnership covenant between churches. This act symbolizes the commitment to walk together, support one another in faith, pray for one another, and continue to strengthen a relationship that unites two Christian communities from different places. As part of this celebration, the members of Peace Lutheran Knoxville congregation also presented a blanket to be kept at Las Rosas Church as a lasting tribute to this bond and as an invitation to keep the partner church in their prayers. It was a deeply meaningful gesture that will help keep alive the memory of this union and the commitment to continue building together.
As a symbolic gesture toward the families of the church leaders who have worked for the community and the congregation and persevered for so many years, they were given a cross as a gift for prayer and as a symbol of protection and fellowship. For Doña Margarita, the Church of Peace prepared kits for newborn babies as resources and support in her calling to serve the women of the community; we are deeply grateful for their attention to the community’s needs.
Although our time together as a community was brief, every moment was filled with meaning and left all participants with a deep sense of gratitude. It was an opportunity to listen to the words of our brothers and sisters from Las Rosas, learn about their stories, share in their joy, and celebrate the journey of a church that has been part of the Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala (ILAG) for so many years. The visit reminded us that partnerships are built mainly through relationships, prayer, listening, and the desire to walk together. As this gathering came to a close, a truth that unites us beyond any distance or cultural difference was once again brought to light: we are one in Christ.
Durante este segundo día de visita en la comunidad de Las Rosas, tuvimos nuevamente la oportunidad de compartir de una manera más cercana con los hermanos y hermanas de la iglesia. Entre las actividades realizadas, se elaboraron collares con cruces hechas de madera de olivo, un detalle lleno de significado para nuestra fe. El olivo nos recuerda nuestras raíces teológicas y, en este contexto, la cruz se convirtió en un símbolo de nuestra fe compartida y de la unidad que existe entre las iglesias, aun cuando se encuentran separadas por miles de kilómetros. Cada collar quedó como un recuerdo tangible de la hermandad y del vínculo espiritual construido durante la visita.
Antes del servicio, los pastores tuvieron un espacio especial de conversación con los jóvenes que participarían en su Primera Comunión. Este encuentro permitió dialogar con ellos acerca del significado de este importante paso en su vida de fe, escuchar sus inquietudes y aclarar las dudas que pudieran tener antes de confirmar públicamente su fe ante la iglesia y, sobre todo, ante Dios. Durante el servicio se celebraron las Primeras Comuniones, en un ambiente de alegría y gratitud. Como parte de este momento especial, los hermanos y hermanas de Knoxville obsequiaron una Biblia a cada joven, como símbolo de este nuevo paso en su caminar cristiano y como un recuerdo que podrán conservar a lo largo de sus vidas, regresando siempre a la Palabra de Dios y a la experiencia de este día.
Uno de los momentos más significativos de la visita fue la firma del convenio de hermanamiento entre ambas iglesias. Este acto simboliza el compromiso de caminar juntos, acompañarse en la fe, orar unos por otros y continuar fortaleciendo una relación que une a dos comunidades cristianas de diferentes lugares. Como parte de esta celebración, los hermanos de la Iglesia Luterana Paz en Knoxville entregaron también una manta para que permanezca en la iglesia de Las Rosas como un recuerdo permanente de este vínculo y como una invitación a mantener presente a la iglesia hermana en sus oraciones. Fue un gesto profundamente significativo que ayudará a mantener viva la memoria de esta unión y el compromiso de seguir construyendo juntos.
Como acto simbólico hacía las familias de los líderes de la iglesia que han trabajado para la comunidad y congregación y perseverado por tantos años, les dieron de obsequio una cruz para orar y en símbolo de protección y hermandad. Para doña Margarita la iglesia de paz preparó unos kits para bebés recién nacidos como recursos y apoyo en su llamado al servicio de las mujeres de la comunidad, la atención a las necesidades de la comunidad la agradecemos grandemente.
Aunque el tiempo compartido en la comunidad fue breve, cada momento estuvo lleno de significado y dejó una profunda gratitud en todos los participantes. Fue una oportunidad para escuchar las palabras de los hermanos y hermanas de Las Rosas, conocer sus historias, compartir su alegría y celebrar la trayectoria de una iglesia que durante tantos años ha formado parte de la Iglesia Luterana Agustina de Guatemala. La visita nos recordó que los hermanamientos se construyen principalmente mediante las relaciones, la oración, la escucha y el deseo de caminar juntos. Al finalizar este encuentro, quedó nuevamente presente una verdad que nos une por encima de cualquier distancia o diferencia cultural: somos uno en Cristo.
